Eurasia Packaging Istanbul Fair ended with the participation of nearly 70 thousand visitors, 12 thousand of whom were mainly from European countries. The fair, which provides the packaging industry with a hybrid fair experience for the first time, will continue to bring companies and visitors together with Online Networking Days until November 5.
Eurasia Packaging Istanbul Fair, organized with the support of the Packaging Machinery Producers Association (AMD), Flexible Packaging Manufacturers Association (FASD), Label Manufacturers Association (ESD), Cardboard Packaging Manufacturers Association (KASAD), Metal Packaging Manufacturers Association (MASD), Corrugated Cardboard Manufacturers Association (OMUD) and Rigid Plastic Packaging Manufacturers Association (SEPA) in cooperation with Reed Tüyap Fair Organization Inc. and Packaging Manufacturers Association (ASD), was held in Tüyap Fair Convention and Congress Center in Istanbul. At the fair, which hosted its visitors on October 20-23, all kinds of turnkey solutions, from packaging products to packaging machines, from food and beverage processing machines to packaging printing technologies, met under a single roof. This year, the fair, which was organized in hybrid format for the first time, also introduced the sector representatives to the next generation of fair experience.
'We have reached the numbers that have been experienced before pandemic'
Stating that they hosted participants all over the world with the Eurasia Packaging Istanbul Fair, Reed Tüyap Fair General Manager Ali Muharremoğlu said, "We filled all 14 halls in a 120 thousand square meters closed area. We have reached our pre-pandemic levels again. We hosted a total of 70 thousand visitors, 12 thousand international visitors from 125 countries of the world, from Europe to the Middle East, from the Balkans to North Africa. We also made the visitors who could not join us due to the pandemic meet with the participating companies online. Pack Days, on the other hand, was a success. 2500 products were exhibited on the Business Connect Platform, 540 companies were registered in the system. Over 2,000 connections were established with approximately 4,000 visitors from 84 countries. Online Networking Days are still ongoing. Zeki Sarıbekir, Chairman of the Board of the Packaging Industrialists Association (ASD), pointed out that they increased this number to 12 thousand today while welcoming 8,500 foreign visitors before the pandemic, said "This is a pride for us. These visitors will increase the exports of the sector by supplying their products through the fair.
‘We provide 400 billion dollars of movement’
Stating that the packaging sector is growing rapidly, Sarıbekir pointed out, "While the 2019 turnover of the sector was 23 billion dollars, this figure was 25 billion dollars in 2020. It closed last year by making a positive contribution to the current account deficit. Our 2020 exports amounted to 5 billion 147 million dollars. On the other hand, Turkey's packaging industry, which continues its stable growth by focusing on value-added production, exported 3 billion 44 million dollars in the first 6 months of 2021 and had foreign trade surplus of 1 billion 222 million dollars. We provide an economic movement of 400 billion dollars in our country with packaging. As the packaging industry, we believe that we will reach our targets of at least 28 billion dollars market size and 6.5 billion dollars export income in 2021. We are very proud and happy to contribute to the second quarter growth figure of our country's economy, which is 21.7 percent, as the packaging sector".
‘Export to 180 countries’
Stating that they continue to work as the packaging sector in order to export more and more and to export at least half of the packaging produced in Turkey, Sarıbekir said the following about the targets of the sector: “We have a high level of competitiveness and potential. The products of the Turkish packaging industry are exported directly and indirectly to 180 countries in the world. We should increase the number of markets even more. We should export at least half of what we produce. we are about to reach our 2023 target, 30 billion dollars. In 2023, we aim to export 8 billion dollars, 380 dollars per capita annual consumption. We have set a target of 50 billion dollars for our 2030 sector size. In 2030, our export target is 20 billion dollars. Turkey's packaging industry is taking decisive steps towards becoming the packaging center of Eurasia."
Scholarship opportunity for students
On the first day of the Eurasia Packaging Istanbul Fair, the results of the 17th Packaging Design National Student Competition, organized in cooperation with the Packaging Manufacturers Association and Tüyap, were announced. 92 projects applied to the competition, where students participated intensively. 18 projects were awarded. Students who rank among the top 3 received 12 months of scholarship per year from the Tüyap and Packaging Manufacturers Association during their education.
